Dramatic Rescue in Vehicle Accident Outside of Knoxville
A dramatic rescue took place on highway 92 east of Knoxville mid-day Tuesday when Marion County first responders extracted a man who had reportedly been trapped in his vehicle for over 12 hours after he lost control rolled off of highway 92. Officials say a resident of the 1500-block of Newbold south of Knoxville called 911 and reported cries of help coming from the wooded-area between her home and highway 92. Marion County Sheriffs Deputy Tom Morgan was first on scene and located the man, by following his cries for help between highway 92 and Newbold. The Knoxville Fire Department, Knoxville Rural Fire Department, Pleasantville Rescue, Columbia Fire Department, Knoxville Police Department, Marion County Sheriffs Deputies and Marion County Emergency Management Coordinator Jeff Anderson responded to the scene, as well as dozens of first responders. Pleasantville rescue transported the man to a Des Moines hospital, where he was reportedly conscious and breathing and in communication with rescue crews. The Marion County Sheriffs Department says due to the inclement weather, available rescue helicopters could not be deployed. The mans identity is not yet known, but the vehicle he was driving did have Marion County license plates.
